4th of July table inspiration

Hey Friends! Summer is about to be in full swing and that means 4th of July is right around the corner. I like to create pretty things and thought a tables cape for the holiday would be fun!

I liked the concept of an indoor picnic so this is what I went with! Natural elements, and just a few pops of red, white and blue!! Easy and fun! I love the woven caddy from Hearth and Hand ( CICK HERE) You can put your silverware, napkins, and even some drinks in it! Beautiful and easy to carry. Pops of color can come from the napkins or even food itself such as blueberries and strawberries. Add some sparkly stars and voila you’re done!

Natural Marble Cleaner

571DF07F-4192-48C6-A1D1-67307FF5DF18.jpg

Hey Friends!!

I’ve gotten questions regarding how I clean my countertops so here’s a little how to!! We have honed Danby marble in our kitchen. Honed means the polish has been taken away so it is not shiny. In our bathrooms we have polished carrara marble.

Sadly marble does stain and etch. However, I do feel this adds to the beauty of it!! When cleaning marble natural products are best because they will not damage the stone! Castille soap is an excellent natural soap and is great for so many things including marble!

This super easy recipe will keep everything clean and smelling delicious. I use this in our kitchen and bathrooms as well.

MARBLE CLEANER.jpg

For darker stains I use a baking soda poultice. Just add a TBS or two to the area you are treating. Add a teeny bit of water and mix till it form a paste.

Leave in place and cover with clear plastic wrap. IF needed tape it down so it does not move. Leave overnight. In the morning life it all and wipe down with cleaning spray. Stain should be lighter as the baking soda goes into the marble’s pores to lift the stain. Don’t be disappointed if it does not work 100% the first time. Sometimes it takes 2-3 tries before the stain is gone!

I use lavender or lemon castille soap and essential oils! Ultimately the scents you choose are your preference. However, I think lavender smells so clean and amazing!

Natural Homestead Sprays

Hey Friends!! I don't know about you, but I love it when something is functional and cute at the same time!! I've been using a few mixtures here on the farm that have worked and I thought it was time to pass them along to all of you! Of course I created some cute labels you can print and use for yourself! This way we can all share the love and keep our farms and animals happy and healthy.

Here's what you'll need to make these!

* 2-4 Glass bottles depending on how many of the formula's you'd like to make

I used these 16 once bottles from AMAZON. Click HERE to purchase. You can also purchase the dark glass bottle as well. Sometimes essential oils keep best in a darker bottle. I tend to go through these pretty quick and make new mixtures every couple weeks, but if you're gonna just use sporadically I'd get the darker bottles.

There's a few options for the labels. You can print them on cardstock and adhere with glue, or you can print them on label paper and spray them with a protectant sealer to keep them fresh. You can use a sealer such as this one on amazon! Click HERE

You can also use clear label paper!

Then just follow the recipes below for each type of spray.Below are the ingredients and directions for each one!! You may add different essential oils or even make different combinations to your taste and like. Most all these recipes will work well even if you change the essential oil.

insturctions.jpg

Coop Spray

Lemon oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties which makes it a good cleaner and disinfectant! I have made this spray every couple weeks and spray it all over the chicken coop and bars.I also use it in the duck house and alpaca area when I'm cleaning anything. This is also GREAT for your kitchen countertops, etc. And it also smells delicious!

Farm Spray

This is a much stronger/concentrated version of the Coop Spray. You are essentially letting the natural oils and properties of the orange and lemon peels diffuse into the vinegar over a period of a month or so. You are then straining the vinegar and using that very concentrated formula. No water added, just the vinegar you let sit in the peels.

This really works well to clean and disinfect. You can use it to clean your oven and kitchen, Even your bathrooms, etc. It will be an orange tinted liquid when poured into your glass bottle.

Insect Spray

This is safe for humans and animals. Lavender is a natural mosquito repellent and it can also deter flies. I spray this on the animals directly and around my ankles and clothing when going outside. Tea Tree oil is used as a combination insect repellent and natural insecticide against numerous pests, including mosquitoes, ants, and other biting or stinging insects. It has also been used to effectively kill lice and other parasites. The solvent properties of tea tree oil soaks into an insect’s exoskeleton upon contact and suffocates them.

I usually take tea tree oil and rub it onto a washcloth which I wipe around the donkeys ears and tops of their head. We had some trouble with Buddy getting ticks on him. Once I started using the tea tree oil he has had no ticks! The ticks dislike the smell and back out or suffocate.

This spray is great because it uses both the tea tree oil and the lavender to work together! This is safe to use on yourself and on your farm items and animals. NEVER spray on an animals face, or any open or sore areas. Of course use your judgement when it comes to how much you're spraying. For animals I'd say spray 1-2 daily and the same for yourself. When going out to areas where there will be lots of insects or mosquitos more frequent application will be necessary.

Mite Spray

This spray is mostly specific to chicken coops or areas where fowl congregate. Mites can be a real issue for them and it's necessary to maintain areas clean. If you have a mite problem this spray works great to kill the mites and eliminate them for good.

* Another tip that's easy is to add garlic powder to your chickens feed! Mites do not like the smell of garlic and when the chickens eat the garlic the mites can sense that and won't come near.

To print these labels simply drag the image below to your desktop and print! If you're viewing on your mobile device just press down on the image below and save, then e-mail to yourself and print. They will be the correct size for a 16 oz bottle! If you have trouble doing this let me know!

Let me know what you all think and tag me in your post if you make them!! I would love to see them being put to good use!! Happy Spraying!

Valentines Day Tablescape

IMG_2257.jpg

Hi Friends! I love the idea of having family and friends over around Valentines! It’s another fun time of year to bake cookies and maybe even do brunch!

I can sometimes be a girly girl and love all things pale pink and pretty in texture! So I came up with this tablescape to share with you in hopes you can create your own version!

THINGS YOU’LL NEED:

Glassware- anything clear or milk glass and pretty

Dishware- anything white or milk glass

Flatware- Gold or silver ( Gold flatware from Target CLICK HERE)

Votives- clear, silver, or gold

Candlesticks- wood, white, or gold

Placemats- Jute Braid placemats from Walmart (CLICK HERE )

Add cake stand for height

Burlap ( Available at Walmart CLICK HERE and Hobby Lobby CLICK HERE)

Runner- if you have a neutral runner lay that down first then add some burlap on top then place your candles, votives, etc.

I went to Target and just got some cute items from their dollar section ( Who am I kidding, it’s more like the $3 and $5 section but still) They had the cute metal tin and wood heart, etc. Little items like that can go a long way. You don’t need too many to make a statement and add some pretty to your table.

I hope you love it as much as I do!! Let me know if you do a Valentines tablescape and be sure to tag me on instagram!!

Much Love, Annette

Azure Farm Home

987DC960-7B9A-4B41-84DF-67262C30E9E1.jpg

Hello Friends! You all have been so kind regarding our home after I did a little house tour last week! There were quite a few similar questions regarding our decor and things so I thought I’d do a little blog post with information and links so you can find some of these things yourself! Below are the most asked questions I got! I hope this is helpful to you! Feel free to comment or message me with any other thoughts!!!

Door Handles

One of the most asked questions was regarding our door handles. I looked high and low for the perfect brushed brass handle. I am obsessed with gold hardware and most of our home has it !

I finally found an amazing company in London who I purchased all our door handles from.

Handles 4 U from the UK - https://www.handles4u.co.uk/products/Door+Handles/Lever+Handles/Lever+Handles+on+Square+Rose/Brass+Lever+Handles+on+Square+Rose

I not only got their handles but also locks and door plates. They definitely add character to any door. I loved the square nature of them and they are very heavy and well made. Do note that is’t best if you order them for doors that do not have pre-drilled holes as this will show. You have to have smaller holes drilled by someone who is a locksmith and knows how to install door handles.

Engaged/Vacant Lock

In our 1/2 bath I also added a lock element I found from a different London based company. It is a wonderful lock that moves when used and let’s others know whether the bathroom is engaged or vacant. I think touches like this can really make a door.

1/2 Bath Door Lock - Willow and Stone Company- UK - https://www.willowandstone.co.uk/ironmongery/brass-vacant-engaged-lock.php

Front Door Hardware

I also received questions regarding out front door lock. This piece I really loved because with a dutch door I wanted to have different elements to the lock. I ended up doing not only the door handle and lock for the dutch door but also a separate lock to keep the dutch door attached or alllow us to open it.

Myknobs.com has some great hardware and this specific one I got through them. The company is

Nostalgic Warehouse and our knobs are under the craftsman section.

Interior Paint Colors

Many asked what color paint we used throughout the home. This was a tough one at first as I had NO clue what I wanted. I did however always gravitate towards a clean white throughout. I love Studio McGee and I looked through many of their images for paint inspiration. I finally decided on the paint colors they use most in their homes.

Walls- Benjamin Moore Simply White in flat

Trim + Doors- Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace in eggshell.

Benjamin-Moore-Chantilly-Lace-is-one-of-the-best-cool-white-paint-colours-with-undertones-1.jpg

These colors have been WONDERFUL!  The wall color is the perfect white. Not too stark or sterile and not too warm. Looks good in all lighting and never looks yellow or cream. The trim color is a tad brighter and crisp and really brings out a beautiful contrast between the trim and the walls. I would most definitely recommend these colors and use them again in future projects!

Black Door Color

Our 1/2 bath has a beautiful black door which the brass hardware compliments very well.

Sherwin Williams - Black Magic

Is in my opinion one of the best black colors out there. It has a hint of navy so it’s not too stark but it’s rich at the same time. I just love it so much!

Brick Wall

I have always just loved brick walls. They add so much character and dimension. When we built our home we didn’t have the funds to do too many projects so I have just little by little added things to give character. Faux brick was a super easy way to do so!

Koni Brick Flats - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Koni-Brick-Old-Chicago-Blanc-8-20-in-x-2-50-in-Thin-Brick-10-76-sq-ft-Flats-Manufactured-Stone-Siding-KBFT-214BLC/207188986?cm_mmc=Shopping%7CG%7CBase%7CAll-Products%7CAll%7CAll%7CPLA%7C71700000014585962%7C58700001236285396%7C92700010802552355&gclid=Cj0KCQiArqPgBRCRARIsAPwlHoUwhvdbZgomrnZfQDRgzvZC3Lg5cJMla1ILUxE_6NDOdVHAoIectHcaApw6EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

These are the ones I used. I love white and wanted to continue that theme and not do traditional red brick. These are thin brick veneers that you can easily just stick up on the wall. They are a tad pricy but they work well and look very real. Because they are of a rock like material they can definitely break at times in shipping. I still used every piece. The broken pieces can be put together when you’re attaching them to the wall and you can’t even tell. There’s probably a few more areas I’d like to add brick to but have just not been able to. If you’re looking at making a statement on just one wall I would say definitely go with this!

IMG_8881.JPG

Concrete Floors-

Our home is one story so no basement or upstairs. To do hardwood floors throughout would have been very expensive so we looked at other options and concrete was the best decision. We needed to have a slab anyway to build the house on, so we just let our builders know the concrete would be our final floor!

You must do this or they will write all over it and not take “ care” of it through the building process. Instead of the more traditional finish we asked them to polish it and seal it so it would prevent future stains etc. I will say however that our slab was poured when it was VERY cold. about 28 degrees and when they did the sealing it kind of didn’t spread as easily because of the weather.

This made splotches everywhere and it did not look great. Plus the gray color looked very garage or basement like. So once it was finished we decided to buff away the sealant they had used and then stain the floors. The stain seeps into the top layer of the concrete and can be any color you want!

We went with a dark gray and it has been great! The floors still have imperfections and irregularities but these add to the character and we love them!

We were able to do heated floors only in our master bath and closet. What a great thing this is! They can definitely be cold in winter, but I just wear house slippers and they keep my feet warm. It does take a bit to get used to how hard the floors are but unless you literally stand all day it should be alright!!

Lighting

I searched high and low for lighting and picked every fixture for our home. Overstock and Wayfair are EXCELLENT sources for lights! Their customer service is also great!

Kitchen Hardware-

This is another thing I looked high and low for. I wanted statement pieces for the drawers and a handle that was quite long and not just 2-3 inches. I saw a remodel that Studio McGee did where they used schoolhouse electric  hardware and I was in love!

It is definitely on the pricy side and this is one of the biggest investments I made but I love them and they really mix that modern with traditional for me. I used the 11” Edgecliff pull
