Budget-friendly fall decorating ideas using foraged items from your garden

Every year when September comes around, I get a little bit too excited! As my husband would say, I may be just a tad bit obsessed. I am enchanted with all things concerning fall and what this season brings! Perhaps it’s because I was born right at the start of fall… yes, I’ll blame it on that!

The pumpkin scented everything! Cozy bonfires. Yummy apple recipes. Slowing down after the summer season. I am rooting for it all!

Keep reading to see how I’ve decorated our home and at at the end of this post take a look at some of my friends who have are also sharing theirs!

When it comes to decorating our home, my taste and decor style has changed over the years. I used to love the bright orange colors and pumpkins galore. But now, I have scaled it back a bit and look to nature for inspiration when decorating our home for fall.

There is something so magical about the changing seasons. There is beauty even when a flower has lost its brilliance. And it’s also a reminder of how we need to go through difficult changes in our own lives, for new fresh beginnings.

That’s why I love embracing the old and new, using natural elements and foraged items for decor. Yes, I will definitely be including pumpkins, but for now, I am using some budget-friendly fall decor around our home that is inexpensive and makes me feel cozy and happy.

Read on to see how I achieved this look and how you can too by incorporating these budget-friendly fall decorating ideas!

MANTLE AND LIVING ROOM

This area is where we as a family would spend most of our fall and winter evenings together, snuggling up, drinking cocoa, and playing games. For this reason, I love to make it as comfortable, cozy, and inviting as possible.

I added four elements to this area that make it instantly feel like fall!

  1. Throws and cozy pillows

  2. Natural elements from the outside

  3. Candlelight

  4. Old world touches

For the mantle, my focus point, I went outdoors and got inspired by our hydrangeas, which were beginning to dry. They come in a variety of beautiful colors and still look fabulous when dry. Dried hydrangeas can last indefinitely, so they’ll be pretty all fall long.

I then grabbed magnolia leaves which I allowed to dry, and branches from our pear and apple trees. Use strong florist wire or green string to tie the stems together. You could also use some sticky tape or sellotape to make sure it stays in place where you need it too.

Candlelight is always a must, creating a relaxing and calming atmosphere. With its delectable scents, think grandma’s favorite pumpkin spice pie, and glistening lights, you are sure to feel right at home.

Using simple hurricane vases with pillar candles adds the perfect touch, creating an effortless look. Super easy and inexpensive to do!

I love adding chunky knit blankets, throws, and puffy pillows. It just begs you to come to sit down and cuddle!

I will tie the fall coziness look together with old-world touches and charm by using old antique books, wooden crates, and a touch of copper.

Lastly, I added some of our personal things from the farm such as a nesting ball with alpaca fiber, some of Tom’s feathers and our own home grown corn.

KITCHEN

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen! Always busy cooking something. So when it comes to the kitchen, I like to keep it clean and organized to have ample working space but still inviting and charming.

An inexpensive way that exudes fall is to warm up the decor by adding more wood tones, golds, silvers, and anything that makes the kitchen feel more cozy and glamorous.

Bowls of freshly picked pears and apples add just a small pop of color! Keeping with the natural elements and bringing the theme from the living room to the kitchen, I added dried flowers and branches to my open shelves.

Fresh flowers currently in season, such as sunflowers, are a favorite of mine and remind me of these last days of summer and sunshine.

I’ll finish the look by showcasing my beautiful wooden chopping boards, using amber glass bottles, displaying dried pine cones in a wire basket, and finally, a vintage copper kettle to top it all off.

READING NOOK & OFFICE

The perfect place to read a book and wind down. I love reading to Ava or have some quiet downtime for myself (or get into serious work mode!) in this nook/ office. So making it perfect for the relevant season makes it even more enjoyable.

This area is usually easy to transition just by adding a few elements. Some cozy blankets that are easy to grab whenever you’re feeling cold, and natural foliage like the branches pictured here, which is easy to get from your garden. I will allow them to dry and stay there for a while! Lots of pillows and wood elements make this truly a cozy spot.

Lastly, my collection of antique candlesticks add a warm and charming touch.

Did you know I have a kids book called Percys Big Adventure? It’s all about our alpaca Percy and his adventure around Azure Farm! Ava loves it and it’s so fun to have a book she can treasure.

LAUNDRY ROOM/ DIRTY KITCHEN

This is one of the most used rooms in our home. It’s used as a smaller extension of our kitchen as well as the laundry room.

I love styling the top open shelf with items we use regularly. To add a touch of fall, I added this gorgeous paper from White Sparrow Store. The colors exude fall to me and also have this beautiful vintage look.

I also love adding fresh blooms in this room as the natural light is always beautiful in here. Mums are always a favorite of mine for fall.

Using recycled glass jars (another inexpensive trick) to store things we use daily, makes it easy to visualize things and use them. A few amber jars in here as well add the look of fall without being overly obvious.

Touches of dried wreaths, grass baskets, and wood items tie it all together!
